Woman Arrested for Falsely Accusing Officer of Harassment

MASCOTTE – A Mascotte woman was arrested Saturday after she told an officer she was being harassed by another Mascotte officer.

Officer Betancourt responded to the home of 40-year-old Chaila Wallbrown at 3:55 pm Saturday afternoon in reference to an allegation of a woman being harassed by a Mascotte Police officer.

According to an arrest report, Wallbrown told the officer that while she was outside of her home, a gray Mascotte patrol vehicle passed her by, made a u-turn and came back to her. She stated in her affidavit that an officer allegedly shouted out the window to her stating “So I see you made bail”. According to Wallbrown, she replied “yes” to the officer and the officer allegedly stated “I’ll be seeing you around”, and Wallman replied, “I’ll be looking for you too”.

When Officer Betancourt asked Wallman if she knew who the officer was, she told him she believed it was Officer Silverio, the same officer that arrested her the previous week for possession. Wallman also described the officer driving a gray Mascotte Police car with blue lettering on the side.

While investigating, Officer Betancourt found that Officer Silverio arrived at the department for his shift at 2:58 pm and did not leave until 4:40 pm according to surveillance videos.

According to the report, Officer Silverio was the only officer on duty at the time who drove a patrol vehicle with blue lettering.

Once Officer Betancourt completed his investigation, Wallman was arrested and charged with filing a false official statement. She was transported to the Lake County Jail where she later was released after paying a $500 bond.
