Former Mascotte City Manager Arrested, Charged With Battery

Former Mascotte city manager Jim Gleason was arrested and charged with battery on an official and disorderly conduct after a Mascotte City Council meeting Thursday afternoon.

Gleason, who served as Mascotte’s city manager since June of 2011, was terminated on July 7th after the council voted 3-2 to terminate his contract. The termination was effective immediately after the vote at which time Gleason was placed on paid suspension pending an appeal hearing.

During Thursday’s council meeting, members of the council decided not to reinstate Gleason as City Manager.

According to witnesses, the decision caused Gleason to become angry to the point where police were dispatched to the meeting in reference to the disturbance.

Upon arrival, officers found Gleason outside of the building engaged in an argument with council member Brenda Brasher and her husband, Mascotte Fire Chief Randy Brasher.

Officers reported that Gleason focused his anger on council member Brasher, verbally threatening her, calling her a “white trash c-nt”, and poking her on her shoulder in an aggressive manner.

Several bystanders rushed to help the Brashers by pulling them into the building. Witnesses reported that Gleason continued to scream profanities and threatened to go to the Brashers’ house.

Gleason was then arrested and transported to the lake County Jail where he was released a few hours later after posting a $2,500 bond.
