TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Local Police Chief Robert Hicks from the Leesburg Police Department was one of three officers appointed by Governor Rick Scott to the Florida Violent Crime and Drug Control Council on Monday.
According to a press release issued by the Governor’s office, Hicks, along with Franklin County’s Sheriff A.J. “Tony” Smith joined The Council as of October 16 and will serve terms through June 30, 2019.
Another official, Martin County’s Sheriff William Snyder, who was already serving a term on The Council, was reappointed to serve another term.
The Council was established in 1993 in order to financially assist local law enforcement agencies in extraordinary violent crime cases.
Chief Hicks succeeds Chief Jeffrey Chudnow on The Council.
Hicks received his bachelor’s degree from Warner University and a master’s degree from Columbia Southern University. Chief Hicks is a proud veteran of the United States Army, served in several multi-national operations including the Iraqi Gulf War, and Kuwait. He also has over 24 years of law enforcement experience and has been with the Leesburg Police Department for 18 years.
