‘Hot Dogs, Cool Cats’ events offer free pet adoptions, hot dogs and popsicles

TAVARES — It’s the hottest event of the summer! Join the Lake County Animal Shelter and L.E.A.S.H., Inc. for “Hot Dogs, Cool Cats.” Hosted at the shelter, 28123 County Road 561, Tavares, this fun-filled, ongoing event offers families pet adoptions at no cost from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and free hot dogs and popsicles between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

“Hot Dogs, Cool Cats” will be held on the firstSaturday of the month throughout the summer: June 3, July 1 and Aug. 5

Summer is a wonderful season for families to consider adopting a pet, as children are home from school and are able to spend time bonding and caring for their new best friend.

In fact, having a family dog can benefit a child’s emotional intelligence, according to the scientific study “The Role of Pets in Enhancing Human Well-being: Effects on Child Development.” Some ways include increasing self-esteem and compassion, helping children feel accepted, improving cognitive development, lessening stress and contributing to overall happiness and health.
