MOUNT DORA – Lake County officials are urging residents to dispose of their toxic and hazardous household materials in a safe and environmentally friendly way at an upcoming Household Hazardous Waste Collection event.
The event will be held on October 27 at the Mount Dora WalMart located at 17030 US Highway 441 from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon.
During the event, representatives and members of the Household Hazardous Waste Mobile Unit will be available to collect unused or unwanted waste products such as lawn and gardening materials, photo and swimming pool chemicals, paint and related products, cleaning solutions, motor oil and used gas, batteries, fluorescent lamps, light bulbs, and small propane tanks.
The event will have a convenient drive-thru system so that residents will not have to leave their vehicles.
Some materials are prohibited and cannot be collected such as infectious waste, solvents, chemical laboratory waste and radioactive waste.
This event is open to Lake County residents only and requires the person dropping off to produce proper identification with a Lake County address.
Due to limited space, large amounts of hazardous waste materials will not be accepted. If you have large quantities of waste to dispose of, there will be a special drop-off date scheduled at the Central Solid Waste Facility located at 13130 County Landfill Road in Tavares. To schedule a drop-off of large quantities, call (352)343-3776
