Human Remains Found in Florida Highlands

DUNNELLON – The Marion County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that officials have recovered human skeletal remains in a wooded area in Dunnellon.

Officials say they received a report on Friday afternoon of a local resident reporting that, while walking through the woods near 9587 SW 151st Place in the Florida Highlands, he tripped on a tree branch and while catching himself spotted human bones scattered on the ground. He then called for local law enforcement assistance.

Authorities have been on the scene all morning today, including MCSO Major Crimes detectives, Evidence technicians, Field Force members and the Medical Examiner.
