Lake County to begin second pass on storm debris

TAVARES – Lake County will complete its first pass of Hurricane Irma storm debris collection on county maintained roads by Nov. 30, then will begin the second pass to include both storm-related vegetative debris and construction debris. Residents are asked to ensure that storm debris is placed at the curb or on the side of the road for pickup by no later than Sunday, Dec. 10. The second pass is expected to take between 30 and 60 days to complete.

Vegetative debris should be separated from construction debris, and all debris should be kept away from stormwater drains, off of roadways and away from power lines.

Homeowners’ Associations (HOAs), those living on private roads, and individuals living in private communities without an HOA must fill out a Right of Entry form to allow the county contractor to pick up storm debris in their communities. The form can be found online at https://lakecountyfl.gov/departments/public_works/solid_waste/storm_debris.aspx, and must be completed, signed and dropped off to Lake County Solid Waste at 13130 County Landfill Road, Tavares or mailed to P.O. BOX 7800, Tavares, FL 32778. Construction and demolition debris are not included and will not be collected in these private communities. The deadline to submit this form is 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30.

To ensure residents are aware of the hauler’s current location and progress, Lake County has also created a storm debris collection map. The map can be found online at https://www.lakecountyfl.gov/pdfs/public_Works/solid_waste/DebrisCollectionProgressMap.pdf  and will be updated weekly.

Residents may continue to dispose of their storm debris at the Lake County Landfill or at any of the five convenience centers.
