LAKE COUNTY — Deputies with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department began an operation Thursday evening raiding numerous gaming “sweepstakes” locations throughout Lake County.
According to a source, deputies began the raid simultaneously at several locations in Leesburg including Winner’s Circle located in a plaza at the intersection of U.S. Highway 27 and Corley Island Road as well as two others up the road and some in Clermont as well.
Another cafe, located at 1213 S. U.S. Highway 27 in Clermont, was also shut down as deputies seized gaming machines and cash according to a second source.
One source stated they arrived at the Clermont location to find that it was closed and deputies were inside removing gaming equipment such as computers and televisions.
Deputies stated that the cafe was deemed an “illegal gaming operation in the state of Florida”.
According to a witness, deputies reportedly seized televisions, computers, machines, records, and an estimated $100,000 in cash between 10 different locations.
