TAVARES, Fla – The University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences is hosting its eighth annual tour of Lake County’s farms and agricultural attractions, sponsored by the Farm Bureau of Lake County.
Attendees will visit Lake County agricultural business and learn about organic and hydroponic vegetables, micro-greens, citrus processing and moonshine made from locally grown blueberries. Time will be allotted for participants to taste and purchase products at each stop.
Stops schedule for the tour this year include Cutrale, a family run business that began in the 1960’s and is now a worldwide supplier of orange juice; Organica World, which has a farm store direct to the public featuring freshly grown vegetables and herbs, as well as offering tours and seminars in hydroponics and food preparation; Bountiful Farms, a small family owned and operated organic produce farm; and the Yalaha Bootlegging Company, Central Florida’s Premier Craft Distillery specializing in alcoholic beverages brewed from the organic blueberries grown on site.
A lunch stop will be made in downtown Leesburg. Closed toed shoes and long pants are required for the safety of all participants.
The mission of the UF/IFAS Extension in Lake County is to develop knowledge in agricultural, human and natural resources and to make that knowledge accessible to sustain and enhance the quality of human life. The Extension service provides free consultations, as well as educational programs on a variety of subjects.
Interested parties can purchase tickets for the event from the Lake County Farm Tour website for $35. Registration is required to attend. The event will be held November 17 from 8 a.m to 4 p.m. Participants will depart from the Lake County Extension Center located at 1951 Woodlea Road in Tavares.
