LEESBURG – Locals did not let the rain get the best of them Saturday night. The kickoff for Leesburg’s Lake Front Nights summer events promised fun-in-the-sun and although the sun decided not to participate, many locals showed up at Ski Beach to take part in the festivities.
The City of Leesburg kicked off with their first night of what city manager, Al Minner calls their “Fun-in-the-sun Summer series” Saturday night. An estimated 200 people came out to enjoy the refreshing new form of lakeside entertainment.
Kids ran along the shore and climbed Florida’s tallest rock wall while the adults browsed the many vendors and sampled some of the best food from local food trucks.

We interviewed a couple of locals who supported the event. Nikki Walters, a Leesburg native told us, “It was fantastic..Music was great, my daughter loved the rock wall climbing. The pretzel truck was great! Can’t wait for the next one!”
Nikki (pictured with her daughter to the right), told us in the interview that the rock wall was a great touch, adding that it was different than the usual bounce houses seen at most events. “I think they did an excellent job providing a fun spot for families to spend time together without having to spend a lot of money. The location was perfect, plenty of room for the kids to run around,” said Walters.
Lori Sherman, a Fruitland Park resident, told us her favorite part of the night was the ribs and the live music. “Of all the events Leesburg has, this one is more laid back and not so crowded, beautiful scenery,” stated Sherman, “they did an awesome job, definitely a place to relax and enjoy…This is now one of my favorite Leesburg events.”
Unfortunately, however, the night was cut short when the rain got heavier, forcing vendors and locals back to their cars around 7 p.m.
Rainy weather aside, it seems that this may be the beginning of new summer pastime for years to come.
The City of Leesburg will be hosting their next Lake Front Nights event on August 20th from 5:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Ski Beach in Leesburg. Be sure to come and join us and experience Leesburg’s fun-in-the-sun.
