The Florida Association of County Engineers and Road Superintendents (FACERS) awarded Lake County Public Works, and their collaborative team, the recipients of the 2016 State and Local Collaboration Project of the Year.
The award ceremony was held at the Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace.
The team consisted of the Lake County Public Works Department, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), Booth, Ern, Straughan & Hiott, Inc. (BESH), and HDR Inc.
BESH was the Engineer of Record and handled the survey, permitting, roundabout design and project management. This project was funded through a Federal Safety Grant and Local Agency Project (LAP) program.
Prior to the roundabout, the intersection had a 61% higher crash rate than the Florida state average. Since it opened in June of 2015 there have been no reported accidents.
The roundabout project has been so successful that it is being referenced by FDOT District V to other agencies considering roundabouts in rural areas.
BESH is a civil engineering firm located in Tavares, FL that provides a comprehensive range of Engineering, Land Surveying and Land Planning Services to public and private clients.
