LAKE COUNTY – According to a statement released by the U.S. National Weather Service, North and South Lake County is currently under a Tropical Storm Watch.
Officials say that Tropical Storm wind conditions are possible somewhere within the Lake County area within the next 48 hours. Areas affected are Leesburg, The Villages, Mount Dora, and surrounding areas.
Tropical Storm force winds could reach 35-45 mph with gusts of up to 60 mph and are expected anytime between Thursday evening until early Saturday morning.
Due to the high winds, experts expect moderate property damage and are warning residents that failure to obtain proper shelter could result in serious injury or loss of life in some cases.
Some damage is expected to roofing, siding material, porches, awnings, carports , and sheds. Mobile homes may also suffer severe damage especially if not anchored or secured.
Trees are also expected to snap or become unrooted, mostly in shallow rooted areas.
