LEESBURG, Fla. — Despite current renovations at Venetian Gardens, city officials state the show will go on and will include more activities as Leesburg celebrates the fourth of July.
“Even with the on-going work at Ski Beach, we’re going to have another great event,” state City Manager Al Minner. “Our staff and the contractor are working hard to make Ski Beach usable and there is plenty of parking in other locations, so everyone should plan to come down and enjoy the day.”
A statement released by the city of Leesburg stated that this year the city will celebrate the patriotic holiday with baseball, a kid’s zone, and a fireworks display choreographed to music by the famous Zambelli Fireworks Company.
Events will kick off with the Leesburg Lightning continuing their record-breaking season playing against the Sanford River Rats at 5:30 p.m. at the Pat Thomas Stadium where residents can also get great seats for the fireworks display later that evening.
A Kid’s Play Zone will be available offering inflatables, face painting and a photo booth for children as well as free ice cream (while it lasts) beginning at 7 p.m.
Residents will also have the chance to stay cool by taking a dip in the Venetian Gardens swimming pool at no charge from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. or splash around at the splash pad from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. for the standard $2 admission fee.
The fireworks display will begin in the at the normal location on the north shore of Ski Beach at 9:15 p.m. and a boat tailgate party will be located between Monkey Island and the Venetian Gardens boat ramp.
Due to the renovations the beach is undergoing this year, parking will be limited and drivers are encouraged to use the areas north of Dixie Avenue including the ball field at the corner of Canal Street and Dixie Avenue and the the lot by the shuffleboard courts on 2nd Street.
