LEESBURG – Summer in Florida can get real hot. What is worse, is it can get real expensive too. With air conditioners running non-stop at full force, your utility bill reaches new heights during the Summer. This year, the City of Leesburg announced that they will offer its electric consumers a Summertime electric rates price break.
City of Leesburg officials stated that due to a Bulk Cost of Power Adjustment (BCPA), they are excited to pass on the savings to its residents.
The City gets power from the Florida Municipal Power Agency. Over time, a small BCPA fee is included in monthly utility bills in order to maintain reserve funds to cover fluctuating costs of fuel. This year, since the reserves are strong, the city is dropping the BCPA for July, August, and September.
The three-month price rate reduction will begin effective July 1, 2016.
The last electric bill reduction showed a decrease of $7 per 1000 kilowatt hours used on commercial and residential accounts. This year, we are fortunate to have the price reduction occur during the season that normally sees the highest costs due to cooling.
You can expect to see your rates drop beginning with your first statement in early July.
