LEESBURG — A Leesburg man was charged with armed robbery and aggravated battery after a dispute with his brother over a mobile phone according to arrest records.
According to a police report, 23-year-old Michael Wright was arrested Monday night after officers responded to an apartment on Mispah Avenue in reference to a disturbance.
When officers arrived, they spoke with Wright’s mother who stated that her two sons were involved in an altercation when Wright’s brother refused to let him use his phone at which time Wright “rushed” his brother with a long steak knife in his hand and hit his brother in the face at which time Wright allegedly cut his brother with the knife.
Wright then reportedly took the phone from his brother’s pocket and fled the scene.
Wright’s mother told officers she attempted to get him to stop by yelling at him and hitting him on the back and noticed that her other son was bleeding when the two brothers separated.
Responders with the Leesburg Fire Department rendered medical aid for Wright’s brother who was later transported to Leesburg Regional Medical Center for further medical care.
During their investigation, officers discovered Wright had a prior criminal record for armed robbery and burglary of a dwelling.
Officers were later able to locate Wright at which time he was arrested and charged with felony armed robbery and felony aggravated battery.
Wright was transported to the Lake County Jail where he is being held in lieu of a $30,000 bond.
