LEESBURG – One man is in the hospital in serious condition after a shooting in Carver Heights Sunday night, police say.
According to Lt. Joe Iozzi, Leesburg police responded to a call at a home on Talladega Street in Leesburg at approximately 8:30 pm Sunday night in reference to a shooting.
Officers arrived to find Eugene Morton III, 24, with gunshot wounds to his head and shoulder.
“At this time, his injuries appear to be non-life-threatening and it’s evident he was shot twice in the left shoulder and once in the head/face during the incident,” Iozzi stated.
Morton was airlifted to Ocala Regional Medical Center where he was listed in serious condition.
The shooting occurred near the intersection of Talladega Street and Waitman Avenue.
Police had both streets blocked off while officers investigated the scene.
Leesburg Police and Lake County Sheriff’s CSI managed to recover several pieces of physical evidence at the scene.
The incident is still under investigation.
