LEESBURG – A Lady Lake man was arrested Sunday afternoon after an altercation with a Wal-Mart employee left the employee unconscious according to police reports.
According to the report, Leesburg Police responded to the Wal-Mart located at 2501 Citrus Boulevard (US Hwy 441) in Leesburg just after 2:30 pm on Sunday in reference to a battery on an employee.
When officers arrived, they found the Wal-Mart employee laying on the ground unresponsive.
Officers spoke with 44-year-old Essene Feliciano, the man allegedly responsible for the incident. Feliciano told officers that he was
Feliciano told officers that he came to the store to return some items that he had previously purchased however did not have his receipt and was denied the return. According to Feliciano, when he attempted to leave the store, the employee asked him for a receipt at which time he told him he did not have one.
The employee then allegedly grabbed onto Feliciano’s shopping cart and stood in front of his path attempting to pull the cart back into the store when Feliciano pulled the cart in the opposite direction causing the employee to fall backward onto the concrete.
When the victim fell, he struck his head on the concrete causing him to lose consciousness.
Officers also spoke to witnesses who stated that Feliciano was leaving the store when the employee attempted to stop him and stood in Feliciano’s path when Feliciano continued pushing the cart causing the employee to fall back.
Another witness stated that they witnessed Feliciano allegedly push the employee.
Officers attempted to view surveillance footage but were unable to, stating that the “video surveillance was malfunctioning” and that Wal-Mart was attempting to fix it.
Feliciano was arrested and charged with battery on a person over 65 years of age.
The victim was transported to Lake Regional Medical Center where he is in stable condition.
Feliciano was transported to the Lake County Jail and was later released after posting a $2,000 bail.
