ST PETERSBURG, Fla – Florida Highway Patrol says they have arrested a man in connection with a DUI-related crash on I-275 in the early hours of October 31.
Troopers say 45 year old Malo Derone Blackshear of St Petersburg was driving his 2007 Mercedes Sedan on southbound I-275 just south of 38th Avenue. Blackshear was speeding, and overtook a 2001 Hyundai Sedan from behind. The two vehicles collided, rotating to a final rest on the inside and outside shoulders of the road, respectively.
The second vehicle was being driven by 23 year old Nona Evans of St Petersburg. Reports state Evans was taken to Bayfront Hospital with minor injuries.
Evans’ passenger, 27 year old Kasey Gibson of St Petersburg, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers later arrested Malo Derone Blackshear, who was found to have been drinking prior the crash, on charges of DUI-related manslaughter. Blackshear has been detained to the Pinellas County Jail.
