GROVELAND — A man was arrested on Wednesday after allegedly stealing a package off of a neighbor’s porch according to arrest reports.
Groveland Police officers responded to a home on Bluegrass Drive after receiving a call about a stolen package.
According to the report, the homeowner stated that he had received a notification stating that a package he had ordered had been delivered. When the man checked his front porch, the package as not there.
The victim then checked footage from video surveillance system and noticed a man driving a white minivan pull into his driveway, exit his vehicle, and take the package from his porch.
The victim told officers the package contained various items he had ordered totaling just under $200 in value.
Officers canvased the area and located the vehicle from the surveillance footage a few houses down from the victim’s home.
Officers then made contact with 33-year-old Nicholas Ryan McCormick who matched the description of the man in the surveillance footage.
When initially questioned, McCormick denied taking anything from the victim’s home, however, after being detained for further investigation, McCormick reportedly admitted to taking the package and told officers the package was in his vehicle behind the seat.
McCormick was arrested and charged with burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and grand theft. He was transported to the Lake County Jail where he remains in lieu of a $12,000 bond.
Officers were able to return the package back to the victim.
With the holidays approaching, packages left on front porches are high targets for theft. Officials advise anyone who orders packages online to ensure someone is home to accept the package and not to leave any packages unattended on their front porch.
