MARION COUNTY – Marion County officials announced that they have opened two additional shelters for Marion County Residents.
Marion County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Management will provide transportation for any special needs residents. To arrange for transportation, you can call the Citizen Information Line at (352)369-7500. Officials ask that you bring any special needs supplies, equipment, medications or food that you will need.
Belleview Middle School, located at 10500 SE 36th Avenue in Belleview, will be opened at 6:00 pm after classes on Thursday. This location will be open to Special Needs and General Public. No pets are allowed at Belleview Middle School. Marion County Animal Services will provide transportation for pets to the Animal Services shelter if you are a person with Special Needs.
Another shelter will be opened at Vanguard High School, located at 7 NW 28th Street in Ocala at 6:00 pm after classes to the general public. This location will be a pet-friendly shelter. Officials ask that you bring your pet’s food, proof of updated vaccination information and any supplies you need for your pets. Pets must be kept in cages. Pet owners must stay at the shelter with their pets, they cannot drop off their pets and supplies.
Marion County Sheriff’s Depart has already opened up a shelter at the MSCO multi-purpose room at 12:00 Noon on Thursday to the general population are not equipped for special needs citizens. This location will remain open until further notice. No pets will be allowed at this location. The MSCO multi-purpose room is located at 692 NW 30th Avenue in Ocala.
The Southeastern Livestock Pavilion (2232 NE Jacksonville Road in Ocala) will be open to shelter livestock during the storm. All livestock will be accepted during regular business hours (8:00 a.m.-
5:00 p.m.). The owner must provide food, water buckets and care for their livestock. The cost of this sheltering is $10 a day for a concrete stall. 188 stalls are available and it will be first come, first serve only.
