PAISLEY – A Paisley woman was arrested Friday after her 3-year-old son was found walking in the middle of County Road 42 (Lake King Road) in Paisley.
According to the arrest report, Deputy Lucroy was traveling westbound on Lake King Road when the deputy spotted what appeared to be a 3-year-old child “walking in the middle of County Road 42” near Oak Street.
Deputy Lucroy stated that the child began to cry and started running down Oak Street when he spotted the deputy.
Lucroy followed the child down the street where the child ran between two homes and disappeared behind them. After knocking on the doors of the homes where the child ran, Lucroy found the child’s father who stated the child was supposed to be with his mother who lived in a home behind the house he was at and that he was just visiting a neighbor.
Deputy Lucroy and the father walked over to the home and found the boy with his mother at the house.
After speaking to the mother, who was then identified as 26-year-old Keri Marie Thomas, Thomas told Deputy Lucroy that she had been cleaning the house and “did not even realize her son was gone”, according to the report.
Deputy Lucroy ran Thomas’s name through dispatch and was informed that Thomas had two similar prior incidents. The first incident occurred on June 11, 2016. In that incident, a deputy was flagged down by a neighbor who found the child unsupervised in the area of County Road 42 and Magnolia Street. When that deputy made contact with Thomas, Thomas told the deputy that she had been sleeping.
The second incident occurred on September 1, 2016. During that incident, Lake County Deputies were dispatched to a home on Magnolia street where a neighbor told deputies that they found a child wandering unsupervised near their property. Once again, deputies made contact with Thomas and the reports state that it had appeared that Thomas was woken up when deputies knocked on her door.
In both incidents, the child was returned home and reports were filed with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
During the incident on Friday, Thomas told Deputy Lucroy that she currently had an open case with the Department of Children and Families and was attending parenting classes.
Because Lucroy noticed a repeated pattern of the incident, Thomas was arrested and charged with neglect of a child. The Department of Children and Families was contacted by deputies who were told a case would be opened in reference to the new incident.
Thomas was transported to the Lake County Jail where she later was released after posting a $2,000 bond.
