LEESBURG – The family of a Leesburg woman who passed away from injuries sustained in a hit-and-run accident while riding her Harley-Davidson is seeking help to raise funds for funeral and travel costs.
Lori Dudley passed away at the age of 54 on August 20 after being struck from behind while stopped at a traffic light in front of the Beall’s in Leesburg. The driver of the vehicle that struck Dudley took off on foot leaving the scene of the accident but later turned himself in a couple of days later.
According to police reports, Azua was believed to have been intoxicated when the incident occurred.
Jose Omar Azua, 33, was charged with vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident involving a death. He was held at the Lake County Jail until he posted a $35,000 cash bond. Azua is scheduled to appear before a judge for arraignment on September 19 at 8:30 am.
Dudley’s children traveled from Virginia and Michigan to lay her to rest. To help cover some of the travel and funeral costs, they have set up a GoFundMe campaign to raise money. Dudley was a well-loved member of the community. A memorial service was held for Lori at Gator Harley-Davidson where family, friends, and even strangers came together to show their support.
