Locals Enjoy National Night Out 2016 with Leesburg Police

LEESBURG – Hundreds of Leesburg residents came out to enjoy the fun alongside Leesburg Police officers at Tuesday night’s 33rd annual National Night Out.

The event which has been ongoing each year nationwide since 1984 is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and is geared toward raising awareness about police programs in communities.

This year, Leesburg Police along with various other local businesses held the festivities at the Susan Street Sports Complex. Leesburg residents flocked to the complex to enjoy free hot dogs, cotton candy, snow cones, carnival games, the tallest rock wall in Florida, performances on stage by dancers from Dance Dynamix and even a dance routine performed by Leesburg’s own police officers.

Local businesses and organizations such as the ViaPort Entertainment, Salvation Army, Leesburg Partnership, Boys Scouts of America, Army recruiters, and many others lined the field offering raffles with great prizes from gift cards to bicycles.

Leesburg Police officers were out interacting with children and families playing various games and manning tents.

In a time where tension is high between citizens and officers, this event helped show that the relationship between Leesburg’s residents and its officers is strong and well.
