New Clermont Chess Club Looking for Players

CLERMONT, Fla. — Friday began a new season for the chess club at Cooper Memorial Library.

Chess is a rewarding game that provides you the opportunity to win prizes while challenging you mentally.

This gathering is also an excellent social event as all ages are welcome to join in and appreciate the game.

The primary goal of volunteers and other members is to engage with the community and educate kids and adults alike on the beauty of the game.

Connor Eickelman and Jim McTigue are two volunteers who have each participated in 80-100 plus tournaments in the U.S. and abroad. They remain faithful to their roots and have a passion for educating their hometown on a game that has become an influential part of their lives.

The current members are still looking for new additions. If you’d like to take on a new challenge or continue with a game you already appreciate, you’re welcome to participate each weekend.

The meets are held from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. every Saturday.

All official clocks, pieces, and boards are provided by the library and you are not required to bring any additional items.

Additionally, there is another schedule if you are unable to make the weekend gatherings:

Mondays, 3 p.m. – 4 p.m. at the Marianne Beck Memorial Library in Howey-in-the-Hills.
Mondays, 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the Cagan Crossings Community Library near Four Corners.
Tuesdays, 3 p.m. – 4 p.m. at the Fruitland Park Library.
Saturdays, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the W.T. Bland Public Library in Mount Dora.
