New Clues in Citrus County Fatal Hit and Run

HOMOSASSA, Fla – Florida Highway Patrol has released new information they hope will lead to the suspect involved in a fatal hit and run that took place October 13.

Original reports from the night of the incident described an unknown, low-profile recreation vehicle traveling westward on West Southern Street, near South Fairlane Terrace. Dina Towers, a 24 year old Homosassa resident, was out walking along the outer edge of the road, headed east in the westbound lane along West Southern Street.

Towers was struck by the right front of the vehicle, which then fled the scene. Towers was airlifted to Ocala Regional Hospital, where she died from her injuries.

As of October 22, the Florida Highway Patrol has updated its description of the vehicle that hit Towers and is hoping for the public’s help in locating the vehicle and driver.

The vehicle is now being described as a large, possibly dark green ATV with a mounted rack on the rear. Reports state the ATV has been spotted numerous times traveling at night with no lights.
