GROVELAND, Fla. – A 33-year-old woman has been arrested after giving birth last year from an alleged incestuous relationship with her brother.
According to an arrest affidavit, the baby had “serious medical problems” and was taken to Winnie Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando within hours after its November 21 birth.
Pauline Elizabeth Martin, of Groveland, was arrested at her workplace of McDonald’s in Leesburg on Friday on charges of incest after an investigation by the Florida Department of Children and Families.
She also was charged with resisting arrest after fighting with Lake County sheriff’s deputies during her arrest.
She has since been released from the Lake County jail.
According to the affidavit, the Department of Children and Families was contacted after Martin apparently never moved the sick baby into a home for medically complex children nor filled out Medicaid paperwork and failed to obtain a birth certificate or Social Security card for the child.
Genetic testing also reportedly had shown the baby’s parents were close relatives.
The affidavit adds Martin admitted during an interview with detectives on Friday she and her brother had been in a romantic, sexual relationship for 5 years and she was planning to dissolve the relationship because she knew it was wrong.
However, she added the two just had sex the day before she was arrested.
Detectives also interviewed the brother, but Sgt. Fred Jones, sheriff’s spokesman, said Monday it was not clear if charges are pending against him.
