FHP Seeks Public’s Help in Ocala Hit-and-Run Death

OCALA – Florida Highway Patrol Officers are seeking information about a vehicle that killed a Marion County man Friday night in a hit-and-run incident.

According to FHP sources, a U.S. Postal worker discovered a body  lying in a ditch while delivering mail at about 2:15 pm on Saturday.  That body was later identified as that of  Kevin Scott Jones, 45, of Ocala. Sources say   the postal worker then contacted FHP troopers who were nearby working on a separate crash on the highway.

Evidence found at the scene led authorities to believe  the vehicle  was heading northbound on U.S. Highway 441 when it struck Jones, who was reportedly walking along the paved emergency lane of the roadway, causing fatal injuries. Auto parts and debris found at the scene led troopers to a possible description of the vehicle they believe may be responsible.

Troopers are currently seeking information and location of a red  Nissan or Infinity automobile, with damage  to its right front end, hood and right side of the front windshield.
Evidence also reportedly indicated that  the driver of that vehicle fled the scene of the crash going northbound on U.S. Highway 441.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol at 352-732-1260 ext. 237 or contact the Marion County Crime Stoppers at 352-368-7867 or the Alachua County
Crime Stoppers 352-372-7867.
