Wildfire in Ocala National Forest Closes Down State Road 40

OCALA – A wildfire that broke out in the Ocala National Forest caused officials to close down a portion of State Road 40 (SR 40) early Friday morning.

According to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol, the fire which is in the Mill Dam area of the Ocala National Forest caused the section of SR 40 to close down from County Road 314A and State Road 19 (SR 19).

Traffic traveling eastbound on SR 40 is being detoured onto CR 314A to SR 19 and then south on SR 19 to SR 40. Traffic traveling westbound on SR 40 is being detoured north on SR 19 to CR 314 then south on either CR 314A or CR 314 to SR 40.

According to troopers, the conditions have reduced visibility and they are asking anyone traveling in this area to travel with caution and have their headlights on low beam.

Marion County Fire Rescue and surrounding fire departments have been working for two days to extinguish the fire using all resources including air approach.
