GROVELAND, Fla – A Lake County Deputy and a Groveland police officer have been charged with failure to report suspected sexual abuse of a child, according to a press release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
The charges are related to the arrest of Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Chad Corriveau in September. Corriveau was arrested for sexual battery and showing obscene materials to a minor after sheriff’s detectives investigated allegations made by an underage relative.
During the course of the investigation into Corriveau’s activities, evidence was discovered that Corriveau’s wife, Groveland police officer Alicia Corriveau, was made aware of the abuse earlier in the year. Mrs. Corriveau reportedly relayed these allegations to Deputy Seth Luppino on September 7, 2017. Deputy Luppino then waited another 13 days to report the allegations himself.
The State Attorney’s office, upon receipt of the evidence against Lupino and Mrs. Corriveau, issued warrants for both parties. The warrants charged both with failing to report suspected child abuse, which is prohibited under Florida law. According to Florida Statutes, anyone who has reason to suspect a child is being abused or neglected must report those concerns immediately.
Luppino was suspended from duty in September as the investigation into his failure to report the allegations began. He had been employed with the department since 2008 and has had no prior formal disciplinary action aside from a written reprimand in relation to a minor at-fault traffic accident. Termination proceedings have now begun. Deputy Luppino turned himself into the Lake County Detention Center Friday, October 20.
Alicia Corriveau turned herself into the South Lake District Office in Clermont.
