THE VILLAGES – If you have a bunch of old medicine laying around, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office has made it easy to properly dispose of it.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office will be sponsoring an event dubbed “Operation Medicine Cabinet” which allows residents to properly dispose of any unwanted, expired, or unused pharmaceuticals.
Operation Medicine Cabinet will be held on October 22 on the sidewalk of RJ Gators Restaurant in The Villages located at 1015 Lake Shore Drive.
Deputies will be available to take any unwanted prescription or non-prescription pharmaceuticals from 7:00 am until 10:30 am.
This event will help to properly dispose of any medicine that may otherwise end up stolen or abused. All pharmaceuticals collected will be properly destroyed by incineration.
Disposing of any pharmaceuticals in the garbage or by flushing them down the toilet could cause them to leak into the environment and contaminate the soil or local water supply. Operation Medicine Cabinet helps prevent any environmental pollution while also ensuring it stays out of the reach of children.
