Park-goers invited to explore nature and participate in July

TAVARES— During the summer months, park-goers can catch a glimpse of baby birds fledging, summer butterflies soaring and wildflowers blooming at Lake County’s Parks & Trails. In addition to dozens of species of birds including swallow-tailed kites, blue grosbeak, summer tanager and yellow-throated vireo, Florida black bears and white-tailed deer frolic through the area’s undisturbed preserves. Join Parks & Trails staff for free, family-friendly guided events and enjoy unique wildlife and learning experiences offered in July.

 

Kids Map & Compass

Saturday, July 8 from 9-10:30 a.m.

Ellis Acres Reserve, 25302 County Road 42, Paisley

Kids can learn to use a compass and work their way around an orienteering course.

Bring out the scientist in you and discover some of the how, what, who, when and why along the way.

 

Science Saturday

Join staff on an adventure of exploration and discovery while brushing up on science. Topics may include arthropod adaptations, animal habitats, outdoor life, aquatic organisms and more.

 

Quarterly Bird & Butterfly Survey

Saturday, July 15 from 7:30-11 a.m.

Ellis Acres Reserve, 25302 County Road 42, Paisley

Volunteers are invited to assist in surveying the reserve’s birds and butterflies. Participants should bring binoculars and field guides. Experience is a plus, but not required.

 

Wildflower Hike

Monday, July 17 from 9-11 a.m.

PEAR Park Wildlife Conservation Area, 4800 University Ave., Leesburg

Park Staff will lead visitors on a hike to explore the property’s diverse wildflowers.
