OCALA – A Marion County Deputy is lucky to have walked away from an accident Monday afternoon after his department-issued 2015 Chevy Tahoe patrol SUV was totaled in a three-vehicle accident in Ocala.
Deputy Trammell was responding to a call headed westbound on County Road 328 with his emergency lights and sirens on when the incident occurred, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. Aaron Dion, a 38-year-old Ocala man, was traveling eastbound toward Deputy Trammell when he noticed the Deputies lights and siren and slowed his 2001 Ford F-150 and pulled over to the shoulder. That is when 37-year-old Jeremy Pruett from North Carolina, who was traveling eastbound behind Dion failed to notice Dion’s truck on the shoulder of the road.
Pruett’s 2013 Dodge Dart struck the pickup truck in the rear sending Pruett in a 180-degree spin into the westbound lane in front of Deputy Trammell’s SUV causing the MCSO patrol vehicle to strike the rear of Pruett’s Dart. After the impact, Pruett’s vehicle came to a stop in the roadway blocking traffic while Deputy Trammell’s vehicle left the road and hit a large tree.
Despite the amount of damage to the vehicles, all drivers involved walked away with minor injuries. Deputy Trammell was knocked unconscious for a short while but regained consciousness and was taken to ORMC for medical attention.
According to the FHP report, Pruett is facing charges of careless driving.
