LEESBURG – After almost two months, the second suspect involved in the fatal shooting at the Leesburg WalMart has been arrested according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
The shooting that occurred in the WalMart parking lot on September 19 earlier this year resulted in the death of 44-year-old Mark Allen Estes in what deputies believe was a drug deal gone bad.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, an undisclosed amount of marijuana was found near where Estes was shot along with a .40 caliber shell casing.
After the shooting, witnesses told detectives they saw a red Toyota Camry with a handicap tag leaving the scene in a rush just moments after the shooting which was later discovered to have been stolen out of Sumter County.
The vehicle was later found abandoned behind a home in Leesburg. After searching the vehicle, detectives found latent fingerprints belonging to 24-year-old Roderick Haynes, Jr.
With the new evidence, an arrest warrant was issued for Haynes, however, according to anonymous tips, Haynes had already fled the state to Valdosta, Georgia.
Detectives followed several tips that tracked Haynes through Georgia, Louisiana, and back to Leesburg where he was apprehended on November 10th.
Haynes was located at a home on Samir Lane in Leesburg where deputies served the arrest warrant and took him into custody.
Haynes was transported to the Lake County Jail where he is currently being held without bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on December 5th for arraignment on a felony murder charge.
