Semi Truck Overturns on Florida Turnpike Blocking Traffic

WILDWOOD – Traffic was at a standstill after a semi truck overturned in the southbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike Thursday evening just before 6:00 pm.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol Report, 42-year-old Carlos A. Vasquez was travelling southbound on the Florida, Turnpike near mile marker 306 in Wildwood when the front passenger side tire of his 2016 Freightliner semi truck blew out causing him to lose control of the tractor trailer.

The semi left the road and collided with the guardrail along the outside shoulder causing the trailer to jackknife and overturn coming to rest on its passenger side blocking all southbound traffic lanes.

Traffic was backed up for several hours as troopers cleared the scene.

Vasquez was transported to the South Lake Hospital with minor injuries.

A video caught by Facebook user Jennifer Darley shows the scene as many people exited their parked cars along the Florida Turnpike.
