Umatilla Man Arrested After Stealing Shotguns from Home

UMATILLA –  A Umatilla man found himself behind bars Wednesday evening after allegedly stealing four shotguns from a home on East Fifth Street according to arrest reports.

William Allen Douglas, 27, was arrested and charged with armed burglary to an occupied dwelling, four counts of grand theft of firearms, and two counts of violation of probation after a neighbor called deputies and reported seeing Douglas running through his yard carrying a duffle bag with “long guns” sticking out of the bag.

After making contact with deputies, the caller stated that he saw Douglas and another suspect running through a couple of yards jumping fences with a duffle bag in his hands which had the guns.

Deputies received another call while talking to the owner of the weapons stating that Douglas was seen in a vehicle nearby.

Deputies were then able to locate Douglas in the back seat of a vehicle nearby.

When questioned, Douglas told officers that he entered the home through the garage and had stolen four shotguns that were in a gun display case.

He also told deputies that he knew where the guns were before entering the home since he had worked for the victim and had been in the home before.

Douglas was transported to the Lake County Jail where he remains without bond.
