South Lake High Student Arrested for Bring Knife to School

GROVELAND — A South Lake High student was arrested Tuesday after reportedly bringing a knife to school according to arrest reports.

According to the report, a witness overheard two classmates talking in class. The witness told officers and faculty that one of the classmates stated “he would harm another student with a knife if needed” and also stated that he had a knife with him.

The juvenile suspect was then taken to the school administrator’s office where he admitted to having a knife in his possession.

Police and faculty recovered a spring-loaded “switchblade” knife, which according to officers, does not fall under “common pocket knife parameters”, a standard set by the State of Florida to determine which knives are legal to carry without a concealed weapon permit.

The 15-year-old student was arrested and transported to the Lake County Juvenile Detention Center and charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds, a third-degree felony.
