Leesburg, Fla. – A Leesburg man was arrested Thursday evening after allegedly pawning almost $100,000 worth of stolen jewelry according to an arrest report.
Deputies first received the complaint from the victim on April 4 stating that she had noticed a “large amount” of jewelry missing from a safe in her home. The victim also told deputies that her son, 36-year-old John Edward Bradbury, was the only other person who had access to her safe.
During the investigation, detectives found several transactions at local pawn shops where Bradbury had pawned “several expensive pieces of jewelry”.
According to the report, there were three pawn tickets at Value Pawn and two pawn tickets at Family Pawn and Jewelry in Leesburg totaling to $15,235.
Employees at both pawn shops told deputies that they have had several transactions with Bradbury in the past and have come to know him on a first-name basis.
Managers at both pawn shops appraised the value of all the stolen jewelry to be just under $100,000.
When arrested, Bradbury admitted to deputies that he had a heroin problem and had stolen the jewelry to purchase more drugs.
Bradbury was arrested and charged with five counts of dealing in stolen property, five counts of giving false information to a pawnbroker, and grand theft.
Bradbury remains at the Lake County Jail in lieu of a $40,000 bond.
