TAVARES, Fla. — Since transitioning to a no-kill facility, the Lake County Animal Shelter expected their animals to have longer stays, however, one pet has now been a resident for over a year according to officials.
Ferguson, the six-year-old Olde English Bulldog, arrived at the shelter as a stray on June 9, 2017 and has been waiting to be adopted since then.
Shelter volunteers and staff members say that Ferguson is a sweet, loving, and playful pup who loves hot dogs and chicken nuggets.
According to shelter staff, they believe Ferguson’s personality of not wanting to share the spotlight and be the only dog or cat in the home is the main reason Ferguson has not been adopted yet.
“He’s the first dog to ever have been in this shelter for more than a year,” stated an Animal Shelter employee in a video. “He’s probably been with us the longest because he doesn’t like to share the spotlight. So we recommend that if he does go home with you that you don’t have any other dogs or cats around.”
Pets adopted from the Lake County Animal Shelter have been spayed or neutered and come with a microchip, rabies tag, and all current vaccinations.
Other pets are also available to be adopted for low adoption fees at the shelter. You can see a list of all of the pets available on their website.
The Lake County Animal Shelter is open for adoptions on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located at 28123 County Road 561 in Tavares.
