BUSHNELL, Fla. — The Sumter County Humane Society joined the hunt for the suspect responsible for the theft of a rare white alligator and the death of 43 other reptiles, adding $1,000 to the $7,500 reward being offered for their capture.
The suspect is wanted after breaking into a reptile facility in Bushnell on June 22 and stealing a rare leucistic alligator named “Snowball”.
Before leaving the building, the suspect also set the building on fire for an unknown reason resulting in the death of 43 other reptiles including other alligators and crocodiles.
The Sumter County Humane Society added the extra funds to the reward bringing the total reward to $8,500 offered to anyone with information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for the horrific incident.
“These terrible crimes against animals are absolutely unacceptable. The individual(s) responsible for this needs to be captured immediately and we hope the missing alligator will be safely recovered…we are asking for community help with any information which could help bring justice to these innocent victims,” the society’s Chairman, Celine Petrie stated,
