Sumter County Humane Society Hosts “Adopt One, Save Two” Event

LAKE PANASOFFKEE, Fla. – When you adopt one pet you are really saving two – the pet you adopted and the one that takes its place in the shelter. The Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County is striving to reach a goal of 1100 animals rescued this year by August 19. Why August 19? It’s “International Homeless Pet Day,” a day intended to raise awareness of the plight of homeless and abandoned animals. At this time their shelter is full and with kitten season still in full swing, new arrivals are a daily occurrence. Their dedicated staff and devoted volunteers are working hard to care for all their shelter pets but what everyone wants is for each of these wonderful animals to find its own loving, forever home. Help them reach this goal by coming out to their shelter on Saturday, August 19 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and adopting your newest family member – and saving two lives.

For this special event, HS/SPCA adoption fees for cats will be reduced to $35 and dog adoption fees will be reduced to $90. Their value-added adoption fees include spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations (including rabies), FIV/Feline Leukemia testing for cats, de-worming, flea treatment, microchip, and County license (Sumter County only)…and a wonderful companion. Dogs and cats available from the Sumter County Animal Services facility (SCAS) will also be offered for reduced adoption fees of cats at $35 and dogs at $40.

With so many cats and dogs available and reduced fees, this is a great time to come out to the shelter at 994 CR 529A in Lake Panasoffkee to meet your new best friend and make room for another deserving animal. Apply online now at their website hsspca.org to get approved in advance to be able to pick out and take your new pet home on August 19. All adopters that day will also be entered into a special drawing and one lucky person will win a special gift basket.
