SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — Joseph Sprague Jr., a 30-year veteran of animal welfare, has been named the New Executive Director of the Sumter County Humane Society and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Sprague has experience working as executive director of several humane societies and shelters across the country.
The Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County, founded in 1982, is a private, non-profit organization providing animal welfare and sheltering services to Sumter County, Florida. It is a 5-acre no-kill shelter, located in Lake Panasoffkee.
With the recent growth happening in Sumter County, one of Mr. Sprague’s critical roles will be helping to plan for expansion and improvements of the current animal shelter.
The Executive Director is also responsible for the day-to-day operations of the animal shelter and works closely with the board of directors in developing new business plans designed to support the Humane Society’s mission and programs.
