BUSHNELL – Sumter County deputies have arrested two suspects who they say are responsible for a string of burglaries that occurred between April 4th and April 5th according to a press release.
Deputies responded to a home near Hunt Avenue in Bushnell at approximately 5:25 am on April 5th in reference to a car that had been burglarized.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the victim who stated that someone had broken into their vehicle and stolen items sometime overnight.
During their investigation, deputies discovered numerous other burglaries had occurred during that time period including five vehicles, a boat, and a carport.
The burglaries occurred at various locations on Hunt Avenue, Broad Street, and Highland Avenue.
Reports show that a total of $800 worth of property was stolen and the suspects left behind $1,000 worth of damage.
One victim managed to capture the suspects on video surveillance footage which showed the two men stealing a cooler.
Using the video, detectives identified the suspects as 20-year-old Miguel Garibay and 20-year-old Gavin Weaver.
Garibay and Weaver were located, arrested and transported to the Sumter County Jail.
Garibay was charged with 5 counts of burglary to an unoccupied conveyance (vehicle), 4 counts of petit theft, 1 count of grand theft, 1 count of burglary to an occupied dwelling (home), and one count of criminal mischief.
Garibay was released on April 8th after posting a $46,000 bond.
Weaver was charged with 1 count of smuggling contraband into a detention facility, 1 count of possession of marijuana, 1 count of grand theft, 1 count of burglary to an occupied home, 4 counts of petit theft, 5 counts of burglary to an unoccupied conveyance, and 1 count of criminal mischief.
Weaver was released on April 8th after posting a $39,000 bond.
