BUSHNELL — A former Sumter County jail employee was arrested Monday on allegations she provided contraband to an inmate.
Kimberly Ann McSwain, was a civilian employee at the jail, when she was accused of giving food, cigarettes and chewing tobacco to an inmate, according to Michelle Keszey, a spokeswoman for the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
McSwain, 47, of Groveland, was charged with smuggling contraband into a detention facility and held in the jail Monday in lieu of $2,000 bail.
McSwain, had been employed at the jail since February of 2016, before she was terminated from her detention support specialist position on March 12 amid the allegations, Keszey said.
Keszey added officials do not believe she provided items to any other inmate and it is not clear why she would have given items to the specific inmate.
