LEESBURG – Shortly after 4:30 p.m Wednesday, officers with the Leesburg Police Department responded to a call from The Crossings apartment complex regarding a shooting incident. The incident involved two roommates.
Police detained the shooter, an adult male, while rendering aid to the victim awaiting medical services, also an adult male. According to reports, the victim was shot once in the upper torso, and was flown to Ocala Regional Medical Center for treatment. He is expected to recover from his injuries.
Officers transported the shooter to the Leesburg Police Department for an interview with detectives. Other officers remained on-scene to interview witnesses to the incident. A search warrant was obtained for the apartment, which has since been processed by the Lake County Sheriff’s/CSI Unit.
Lieutenant Joe Iozzi states the incident was isolated, and charges are pending the full and complete investigation. The identities of both shooter and victim are being withheld pending the outcome of this investigation.
