Tavares Man Hospitalized After Tampa Semi Crash

TAMPA, Fla. — A Tavares man was hospitalized following a three-vehicle accident that involved two semi-trucks according to Florida Highway Patrol reports.

59-year-old Juan Lozano of Tavares was traveling southbound on I-75 near mile marker 272 in a 2018 International semi-truck behind another semi driven by 46-year-old Jerome Coleman at approximately 6 a.m. Tuesday morning when the incident occurred.

According to the report, Lozano’s truck overtook Coleman’s truck and collided with the rear of the semi tearing open Coleman’s trailer and spilling fruit trees along the interstate.

A third vehicle driven by 25-year-old Rachel Huertas was also traveling southbound behind the two trucks when she collided with the trees that spilled onto the roadway.

Huertas and Coleman reported no injuries, however, Lozano suffered minor injuries during the crash.

Lozano was transported to Florida Hospital in Wesley Chapel where he was treated for his injuries.

The report indicated that all drivers and passengers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the incident.

Lozano was cited for careless driving as a result of the crash.
