MOUNT DORA – Three Mount Dora teens ranging from 14 to 16 years of age were charged with attempted murder after allegedly beating a man with a baseball bat and leaving him in the street, according to a Lake County Sheriff’s Office press release.
According to the release, dispatchers received several calls regarding a string of car burglaries and a fight near Northland Road in Mount Dora around 4:00 am Sunday morning.
Deputies arrived at a home on Northland Road to find 46-year-old William Scott Pelkey lying in the street.
Pelkey, armed with a baseball bat, confronted the teens who were outside his home. During the confrontation, the teens managed to gain control of the bat and allegedly beat Pelkey with it.
Pelkey suffered severe injuries including broken bones to his arm, face, and hands.
Pelkey was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he was last listed in stable condition.
During the investigation, deputies located the three teens suspected to be involved in the car burglaries and Pelkey’s assault.
Chase Tyler Wood (16), Wesley Carlson (16), and Lauryn Natalie Eubanks (14) were each arrested and charged with attempted murder, armed robbery, and grand theft.
The trio is being held at the Lake County Jail until they are transferred to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
