Two Injured in Early Morning DUI Crash

TAMPA, Fla – Two people were injured early in the morning of Saturday, October 21 following a DUI-related crash.

Florida Highway Patrol reports Eldy Cartaya Dominguez, 32 of Tampa, was traveling northbound on I-275 in a 2017 Toyota Camry near Busch Boulevard when he overtook another vehicle driving in the same lane. Dominguez collided with the bumper of the second vehicle, a 2014 Chevy Road Ranger.

The driver of the Road Ranger was identified as 42 year old Brian Nelson Barrett of Wimauma.

Post-impact, both vehicles erupted in flames. The accident and subsequent fire resulted in the closure of portions of I-275 until 6 a.m.

Troopers responding to the scene found Dominguez was intoxicated at the time of the accident. Dominguez received only minor injuries during the crash and was arrested later by troopers on charges of DUI-related injury and property damage.
