10-year-old Girl Killed in Accident on U.S. 301

A 10-year-old girl and 43-year-old woman was killed in an accident Monday morning at 6:03 a.m. on U.S. 301 in Webster.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 52-year-old Maria Vences, of Lehigh Acres, was driving northbound on U.S. 301 just sound of SW 102nd Road in her 2008 Kia Sedona when she corssed the center line into oncoming traffic and collided with a 1998 Chevy Cavalier.

The driver of the Cavalier, a 43-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Maria Vences was traveling with 2 children, Alondra and Mia Vences. 10-year-old Alondra was airlifted to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa where she was later pronounced dead.

The driver, Maria was transported to Bayonet Point Hospital with critical injuries. The second child, 11-year-old Mia Vences, was transported to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital where she was listed in critical condition.

Florida Highway Patrol has not released the name of the other driver pending next of kin notification.

The accident is still under investigation and charges are pending.
