OCALA – A Vanguard High School student was arrested Tuesday after bringing a gun to school according to Ocala Police.
According to police, a concerned student approached school resource officer Ofc. R. Williams and stated that they believed another student had a gun in his backpack.
The teen in question was allegedly overheard telling another student that he had a gun in his backpack after he swung his backpack and hit a pole causing a metal banging sound.
During the investigation, the 17-year-old student was removed from class at which time Ofc. Williams searched his backpack and found a loaded Ruger .22 cal handgun.
The teen was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm on school property, possession of a firearm by a minor, and improper exhibition of a firearm.
He was transported to the Marion County Jail Juvenile Division.
