Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County Shelter Manager, Anne Miller, recently announced two new adoption programs. “To show our appreciation of our veterans and active military, our Society will honor them with a $25 discount on all pet adoptions through our ‘Pets for Vets’ adoption program. In addition, we have also created a ‘Seniors for Seniors’ pet adoption program designed to help not only the senior citizens in our community but also the senior animals at our shelter.” Seniors aged 65 years and older, who adopt a pet aged seven years or older, will receive a $25 discount on their pet adoption.
Miller spoke of the beneficial impact of an animal in someone’s life. “It is well known that the companionship of a pet can greatly improve the quality of life for human and animal, leading to better health and happiness for both.” She added that many veterans who became dog and cat adopters had mentioned to her staff how much their pets enriched their lives dramatically by reducing stress and depression. Increasing physical activity with dog walking or playing with cats lead to greater social connectedness. She also pointed out how many senior pets all too often get overlooked simply due to their age when they actually make easier pets being they are already calmer and trained compared to more youthful higher energy ones. The Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County encourages all interested adopters to come visit the shelter and possibly find your remedy for good health and happiness.
Dogs and cats available through Sumter County Animal Services are also eligible. These program discounts are not valid in combination with any other coupons, discounts or specials. Proof of eligibility for either discount program required.
